Inside the house

Basement removal around a sump system that must remain

An interior basement renovation may leave the sump system in service while surrounding finishes come out. Identify that retained system before a demolition drawing treats the corner as an empty room. Access to the pit, electrical supply and discharge route need coordination with the responsible trade.

    Identify the complete retained system

Photograph the accessible pit cover, nearby equipment and visible discharge route without opening or testing anything. Mark the system on the room plan. Ask the plumber and electrician what must remain functional and how they will handle any temporary change. A power-off plan for the room may conflict with a system intended to stay running.

Keep the scope away from an assumed pipe route

Where concrete or wall removal is proposed, provide available records of buried or concealed lines. The relevant professional should resolve conflicts before cutting. Do not infer a safe cutting boundary solely from the location of the visible pit. Bolan can assess a defined removal area once the retained-system requirements are established.

    Arrange a functional handback

The responsible trade should confirm the system’s condition after adjacent work, especially if any component was moved or disconnected. Agree who keeps access clear between contractors. Demolition cleanup does not itself confirm pump operation or drainage performance, so retain the trade’s handback separately from the removal record.

Prepare this decision for the assessment

Bring these details to the site discussion so the removal scope reflects the parts of your property that are changing.

    • Whole retained system marked
    • Electrical and plumbing coordination
    • Trade-confirmed return to normal use
