Pool Removal in Oakville
Pool removal takes an old inground pool out of the ground and fills the space so the yard can be landscaped or built on. It is for Oakville homeowners planning a backyard redesign, an addition or a sale. We handle the draining, demolition and backfill.
How we do it
The two photos here show both ends of a pool job: a covered inground pool before work starts, and a mini excavator working in the shallow end while a pump draws down the remaining water. Most older Oakville backyards have vinyl-liner or concrete pools, and each is handled differently.
The pool is drained first. Water is pumped out to where the town allows, not onto a neighbour's lot, and the electrical supply to the pump and heater is disconnected. Pool equipment, fencing that is not staying, and the deck or coping are removed.
Then the choice is between a full removal and a partial one. In a full removal, the entire shell is broken out and hauled away, and the hole is filled in compacted layers. That leaves the most flexibility if you plan to build on that part of the yard. In a partial removal, the floor is broken through for drainage and the upper walls are removed before filling. Which one suits you depends on what the yard will be used for, and we will talk it through at the site visit.
Backyard access is often the hardest part in Oakville. Mature trees near the pool may be protected under the town's Private Tree Protection By-law, so machine routes are planned around them, and side yards may need to be protected with mats.
If you are selling the house later, keep a note of the type of removal that was done and the date. Buyers, home inspectors and future builders often ask, and a clear answer saves time.
The job finishes with the area filled, compacted, graded for drainage and topped with soil, ready for sod, a patio or your landscaper.

Questions we hear
- Should I choose full or partial pool removal?
- Full removal takes the whole shell out and is the better choice if you may build on that spot. Partial removal leaves the lower shell in place with drainage holes, which is enough for lawn or garden. Tell your buyer or future builder which one was done.
- Can a machine get into my backyard?
- In most Oakville yards, a compact excavator fits through a side yard or a removed fence section. We check the route at the site visit and plan around trees and utilities.
- What about the pool fence after removal?
- Once the pool is gone, the enclosure rules for pools no longer apply to that space. You can keep or remove the fence as part of the job.
- Will my lawn be damaged?
- The work area and machine route will be disturbed. We protect what we can with mats and restore the graded area with topsoil, ready for sod or planting.
