Office strip-out around a server room that stays in use
If a server room remains while an office is stripped, the project needs a retained-system plan from the building and IT teams. A keep sign on the door is not enough to identify the services that reach it through adjacent ceilings and walls. Resolve those relationships before defining the removal boundary.
Ask the system owners to identify dependencies
Have the relevant teams identify power, cooling, communications and access requirements. Share their marked plans with the designer and removal contractor. Do not ask the demolition crew to decide which cable or duct is redundant. A cable outside the retained room may still serve it.
Define work restrictions explicitly
Building management should set any access, isolation and operational restrictions with the system owners. Record who can authorise a change and what happens if an unrecorded connection appears. Bolan can assess the agreed removal area without promising uninterrupted IT operation or taking responsibility for systems it does not manage.
Include the surrounding finishes
The retained room may need wall, ceiling or floor edges left intact while adjacent areas are removed. Ask the fit-out designer to specify those boundaries and the replacement interfaces. Arrange a review before subsequent work hides the retained services again.
Prepare this decision for the assessment
Bring these details to the site discussion so the removal scope reflects the parts of your property that are changing.
- IT and building-team dependency plan
- Authorised contact for operational changes
- Retained room and finish boundaries
Continue planning the work
Discuss the property through our commercial strip out service and use the local directory for address-specific preparation.
