Interlock, Patio and Hardscape Removal in Oakville
Interlock driveways and walkways, flagstone paths, poured patios, garden walls and exterior steps all wear out or stop suiting a new landscape design. Hardscape removal lifts or breaks out those surfaces and clears the ground for the landscaper.
Our crew removes hardscaping for homeowners and landscape contractors across Oakville and Halton. It is part of our concrete removal work and uses the same equipment for breaking and hauling.

How the job runs
Site visit
We walk the areas coming out and note trees, drainage, buried lines and anything to be kept.
Locates
Ontario One Call locates are requested and marked before digging or breaking starts.
Lift or break
Pavers and stone are lifted by hand; poured concrete is broken with equipment sized to the job.
Stack or haul
Reusable pavers are stacked where you choose; the rest is loaded and taken for recycling.
Base
The base is left for the landscaper or removed to the depth in the scope.
Cleanup
The area is left clean, with edges and neighbouring surfaces checked.
Before we start
Trees near a patio or walkway may be protected under the Town's Private Tree Protection By-law, so roots and trunks shape how we break out; the tree guide explains the by-law.
Hardscape seldom contains designated substances, but if older materials will be disturbed the owner still has the OHSA section 30 duty to have them identified before arranging the work. A qualified abatement contractor removes anything flagged under O. Reg. 278/05 first; that is not work we do.
Decide which pavers or stones you want to keep and where they should be stacked, and tell us the depth your landscaper needs for the new base.

Questions we hear
- Can you save my interlock pavers for reuse?
- Yes. When you want them, we lift pavers by hand, knock off loose sand and stack them on pallets or neatly in a spot you choose. Pavers that are cracked or badly stained are set aside for disposal. Tell us before work starts so the crew plans for lifting rather than scraping the surface off.
- Why do you call Ontario One Call before breaking a patio?
- Gas, hydro, water and communication lines often run under walkways and patios, sometimes shallower than people expect. Ontario One Call arranges for utilities to mark their lines before any digging or breaking. We do not start until those locates are in place, which protects the crew, your services and your neighbours' services.
- Should the base be removed or left?
- It depends on the new design. If your landscaper is laying new interlock at the same level, the existing base may be reusable after inspection. If the area is becoming a garden bed or lawn, or the grade is changing, the base usually comes out. We follow your landscaper's specification either way.
- Can you take out a retaining wall?
- We remove garden walls and small block retaining walls that hold back soil in beds and terraces. Taller walls holding back significant soil, or walls near a property line or slope, need a closer look and sometimes an engineer's input. We assess each wall at the site visit before it goes into the scope.
