Connected home renovations
Demolition for converting a house into separate dwellings
Turning one house into several homes changes how rooms, entrances and services relate to one another. The demolition package should translate the reviewed conversion design into specific removals. It should not start from the assumption that every existing room must disappear or that the address is eligible for more dwellings.
Discuss the removal portion through our interior demolition service.
Begin after the proposed arrangement is established
The designer and relevant municipality resolve permitted use and the requirements for the property. A Toronto example or another owner's conversion does not establish Oakville permissions. Provide the current design and identify any options still awaiting a decision.
Compare the house by level and connection
Consider an illustrative two-unit proposal: the lower home uses the main floor and basement, while the upper home occupies the second floor. That arrangement creates removal questions at stairs and room connections as well as kitchens and bathrooms.
| Existing element | Design decision | Demolition instruction that follows |
|---|---|---|
| Internal stair | Retained connection, altered circulation or separation | Named assemblies removed only to the reviewed boundary |
| Existing kitchen | Retained, relocated or replaced | Cabinetry and affected finishes listed by room |
| Floor and ceiling junctions | New separation or service access | Required exposure and retained layers identified |
| Exterior entrances | Existing opening retained or separately changed | Envelope work kept distinct from ordinary interior stripping |
The example describes a way to organise questions, not an approved dwelling layout or a construction detail.
Coordinate duplicated facilities and shared routes
New kitchens, bathrooms and service routes can require local openings outside the rooms being rebuilt. The relevant trades specify access; the responsible designer addresses structure and building assemblies. Removal should follow those requirements rather than choosing routes on site without direction.
Retaining an exterior wall does not settle what happens to its lining, window junctions or adjacent cupboards. Describe each physical layer and the contractor that needs to receive it.
Separate demolition from the completed conversion
Bolan can assess the ordinary interior and separately reviewed structural-removal portions within its established scopes. New separations, services, finishes and any compliance verification belong to the wider construction project. No code-compliant conversion, unit entitlement or finished dwelling is promised by the removal guide.
Bring the current house plan, proposed dwelling boundaries, retained stairs and entrances, and the receiving GC's requirements to an assessment. Keep unapproved alternatives labelled so the demolition instruction cannot outrun the design.
