Inside the house
Renovating one bathroom when another is directly above it
When bathrooms are stacked, the room being removed is only part of the coordination problem. Plumbing and other services may cross the ceiling or walls between levels. Describe which bathroom is being renovated and which one must remain available. A promise to keep the other bathroom working requires confirmation from the relevant trades, not just a line on the demolition drawing.
Draw the two rooms together
Provide a simple plan of both levels, with fixture positions and the proposed changes. Show the access route to each room and any ceiling opening already planned below. The plumber can then identify which connections serve each space. Avoid authorising ceiling or wall removal in the retained room until the need and repair boundary are agreed.
Choose a practical period of disruption
Ask which fixtures must be unavailable during isolation and reconnection, and who tells the household when they can be used again. Keep this separate from the demolition work window. If the retained room is the home’s only bathroom, resolve the living arrangements before work is booked; an open room is not necessarily a usable one.
Keep the repair scope on the right level
Record whether damage or openings in the ceiling below are included in the renovation contract. Bolan’s interior removal assessment needs the locations of intended openings and the surfaces that stay. Photograph both rooms before work so the trades can distinguish planned removal from an unexpected condition.
Prepare this decision for the assessment
Bring these details to the site discussion so the removal scope reflects the parts of your property that are changing.
- Two-level fixture plan
- Trade-confirmed fixture availability
- Separate repair boundaries upstairs and downstairs
