Theatre and cinema refurbishment: defining ordinary interior demolition
A theatre or cinema refurbishment can focus on the spaces visitors use before reaching the auditorium. Moving a box office or concession counter can change adjoining finishes and room edges without altering stage or projection systems. Define the ordinary interior contribution separately from the venue specialists' work.

Compare three refurbishment boundaries
An auditorium change is not simply a larger lobby refresh. Identify the physical assemblies and specialist interfaces before choosing a removal package.
| Proposal | Ordinary interiors to assess | Specialist or retained boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Front-of-house refresh | Counters, fixed joinery and selected finishes | Existing room arrangement and auditorium entrances |
| Wider public-area refit | Assessed partitions, concession fit-out and washroom finishes | Connected equipment and new circulation design |
| Auditorium-edge change | Only defined ordinary components under the project design | Acoustic assemblies, projection, stage and rigging systems |
Walk an illustrative visitor-space plan
Begin at the entrance, pass the box office and concession area, then follow the route to washrooms and auditorium doors. In a retained-layout option, selected counters and finishes leave while those room connections stay. The main handover concerns the exposed counter footprints and finish transitions.
In a wider option, the designer relocates concession service and changes a partition beside the washroom route. That adds reviewed wall and ceiling interfaces and specialist decisions about connected equipment. The demolition plan follows the design rather than deciding the public route itself.
At the auditorium doors, mark the stopping line. Work at that edge does not authorise removal of specialist acoustic construction or theatre equipment beyond it. These are illustrative options, not an approved venue plan or a Bolan project record.
Identify who receives each exposed area
The counter installer, finish contractor and relevant trades may need different starting conditions. Specify selected layers and retained edges instead of promising that a cleared lobby is ready for every contractor. Heritage features and significant fabric require their responsible professionals.
Stage machinery, rigging, projection commissioning, acoustic performance and conservation remain outside an assumed ordinary-interior package. A large public project elsewhere is not evidence of Bolan's procurement qualifications.
Request the ordinary removal assessment
Provide the venue location, proposed public-area changes, retained auditorium boundary and design contact. Identify equipment specialists, work-area availability and unresolved interfaces. Management determines event and closure arrangements; the assessment does not promise uninterrupted performances or a show-ready date.
