Office partitions: retain, relocate or demolish?
An office partition designed for relocation needs a destination decision before it joins a demolition list. Retaining it, moving it through a suitable installer and removing it for disposal are different packages. Its appearance alone does not establish which option is practical.
Discuss the removal portion through our commercial strip out service.
Identify the system without taking it apart
Ask the owner for manufacturer information, installer contacts and available drawings. Record which panels, doors and connections belong to the system. Avoid dismantling parts simply to discover how they fit together.
| Outcome | Decision before work | Ordinary building work left to assess |
|---|---|---|
| Retain in place | Does the next layout use the existing enclosure? | Adjacent flooring, ceiling and joinery changes |
| Relocate through a specialist | Will an installer accept the system and receiving layout? | Exposed fixing points and obsolete surrounding finishes |
| Remove for disposal | Owner authorises disposition after reuse review | Assessed removal boundary and material route |
Separate reuse from apparent condition
An undamaged panel is not a promise of a reusable wall. The receiving installer needs to assess the system, required parts and proposed layout. Bolan's ordinary demolition scope does not imply manufacturer certification, reinstallation or guaranteed intact recovery.
If the receiving layout changes, revisit the decision before removal. A system held for reuse without an accepted destination can leave the project with unresolved storage and disposition work.
Follow the partition into the room
The floor may stop at the partition line, and a suspended ceiling may meet it rather than continue above it. Doors, connected fittings and nearby services need their own decisions. Ask the fit-out trades what should remain at those edges when the system leaves.
In an illustrative office move, an installer recovers two meeting-room enclosures for another premises. The original unit still needs obsolete fixed cupboards and selected flooring removed. The supplier package covers the recoverable walls; the demolition package covers the specified residual interiors. Neither scope silently absorbs the other.
Tell Bolan what is outside the demolition package
Provide the identified system, owner decision, installer involvement and the ordinary work remaining. Mark retained partitions on the current drawing and explain the receiving condition at floor and ceiling. If relocation is still undecided, show it as an option requiring resolution rather than an authorised disposal instruction.
